“Héctor was the best of New York City. He was a deeply principled and brilliant individual that I had the honor of getting to know. One thing was clear from our first meeting: he was a tireless leader deeply dedicated to equity and justice — in our schools, our workplaces, in New York City and across the country. He fought for working people, including our school cleaners and handypersons, and he made their lives—and our schools and communities—better for it. This is a tremendous loss for our City. My deepest condolences to Héctor’s family, and the men and women of 32BJ.”
